Coraline: The world of Coraline is filled with animated puppets of immense detail. The Blu-ray transfer delivers an encode free of imperfections such as noise or edge enhancement. The reality of Coraline’s world, compared to the digital sheen of modern computer animation, makes the look even more impressive and unique. The real life texture is stunning, and you can truly appreciate the work on Blu-ray.
Likewise, the uncompressed DTS-HD mix is equally impressive, producing a sharp and accurate soundfield. Coraline’s adventure is as sonically important as it is visually. This disc recognizes that importance.
Little tidbits buried in the extras on how the animation process was completed is far more involving than watching CG come to life, and while some additional depth wouldn’t hurt, you can still learn and appreciate why stop motion is the art of choice for director Henry Selick.
